Letter to the College of Engineering Student Body
from the 2020 SWE/TBP Career Fair Directors
Dear College of Engineering student body,
We recognize that this has been a challenging time for all, and we hope that this email finds you safe and well. We are emailing you to announce details on the Fall 2020 SWE/TBP Engineering Career Fair.
What can we expect from the Career Fair?
First, the career fair will take place virtually on the Career Fair Plus platform. Please download the app (Career Fair Plus in the App Store and Google Play) in preparation for the fair. This is the same app we have used in previous years for in-person fairs. We will provide more information and guidance about using the platform soon, but in the meantime, please refer to the Career Fair Plus website.
The career fair will occur on its original dates: September 14-15, 9AM-5PM EST. A list of companies that have registered will be published approximately two weeks before the career fair.
How will Career Fair work?
Companies will still only come for one of the two days. On their day, they will publish time slots that students can sign up to video chat a recruiter at a predesignated time. If there are multiple recruiters available, information about the major/type of job the recruiter is hiring will be posted for your convenience so you can sign up for the appropriate one. This is to minimize waiting time during the virtual fair and facilitate as many conversations as possible.
Students will be able to sign up for timeslots a week before the career fair. Slots will open on September 4th at 12 PM (noon) EST and will remain open until September 13th at 11:59 PM EST.
Should I still dress up for the career fair?
Refer to our website or social media for more information about best practices! You should still dress professionally.
What if I’m not a student in Engineering?
Any student with a University of Michigan (@umich.edu) email address will be able to attend the Career Fair. However, recruiters may enforce prerequisites that students must abide by before signing up for an appointment slot. For example, recruiters may select “Sophomores and above” or “Mechanical Engineering Majors.” Students will self-report their own information, and it is expected that students abide by the Job Search Code of Ethics and report accurate information about themselves.
What if I have questions?
Finally, our chairs and we will be monitoring a Piazza forum to answer any questions leading up to the career fair. This forum is open now until the first day (September 14th), after which we will hold an open Zoom conference where questions can be answered in real time. Please enroll at the following link: piazza.com/umich/fall2020/cf2020

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we navigate this new virtual landscape. Stay healthy and safe!
